Hidden Treats
Here are some suggestions from our members about local places you (or your families) may not be aware of and which are worth a visit:
- Wells Cathedral with shop and café
- Bishop’s Palace and Gardens with café
- Wells Museum (near the Cathedral)
- The Walled Garden at Mells
- Faulkland Lavender Farm (best in June & July) with café
- Radstock Museum café and bookshop
- Iford Manor Gardens, nr. Bradford on Avon with café and restaurant
- Heaven’s Gate, nr Longleat (viewpoint and forest walks)
- Lady Farm Gardens in Chelwood. The gardens are not covered in typical garden flower beds but landscaped on a grand scale. There is a natural lake and a wide selection of trees and shrubs . Café with indoor and outdoor seating
- Chew Valley Lake (reservoir) which has lots of benches suitable for elderly walkers and a restaurant serving fish and chips or tea and cake
- Yeo Valley Organic near Blagdon Lake, you can eat in the staff canteen
- Waterside Valley. This is beautiful swathe of open green space linking Radstock to Westfield. Somer Valley Rediscovered run a number of events on these grounds.
- Bath Theatrical Costume Hire (in Frome) – hire a costume for a photo or fancy-dress event,
- Midsomer Norton S&DR heritage railway – café and short rides
- Oakham Treasures (retail and farming history museum, Portbury, nr Bristol)
