SINGING GUITARS - Midsomer Norton - Radstock - Chilcompton - Paulton areas

The Singing Guitars have been together now for several years and we have held many concerts in order to raise money for Charity. We rehearse weekly on a Monday morning in Chilcompton Sports Hall and enjoy playing a variety of music including songs from the 60s, 70s and more.

We are a versatile group playing music from the 60s, 70s and more, covering bands like the Beatles, Queen, Abba, Country & Western and many other popular classic songs for everyone to join in and have fun. Although we are an acoustic guitar group, we have a lead guitarist, Dave Stock, who plays an electric guitar and who, in his earlier years, has played in bands semi-professionally.

I have been playing and teaching guitar for many years and also sang semi- professionally for several years, so I have a musical background which helped when I started the guitar group back in 2019. Initially the group was for beginners, and for those who wanted to get back to playing their guitars. Now all the members of the group have become proficient guitarists and singers who thoroughly enjoy performing at concerts.

The group work hard throughout the year rehearsing weekly, but they do enjoy the varied programmes we put together to suit audiences from young to the young at heart who love the hear the pop classics that never grow old.

Future plans for the group is to continue entertaining at clubs, pubs, day centres, etc. and putting on our own charity shows.

We had a show planned in May (2026) in Chilcompton Village Hall to raise money for the Stroke Association. This Concert remembered Jim Edwards who was one of our members who passed away at Christmas.

At the moment we have 9 members, so the group is full. I would, however, consider people in order to put them on the waiting list, please contact Singing Guitars enquiry.

The Singing Guitars have had a very successful year and we performed at several Christmas Concerts throughout December including at the very enjoyable U3a meeting on Monday, 8th December.

We raise money throughout the year from donations which will benefit our charities and also the u3a members charity, which this year is the ' Great Western Air Ambulance Service'.

The group came along to a u3a coffee morning on 29th September to perform a few songs while the art group exhibited their work. This was a very enjoyable morning, which was appreciated by all who attended, and the artists were thrilled by the lovely comments they received.

2025 has been a great year, and we are hoping that next year will be equally as good, as bookings have already started to come in. If you would like some entertainment for an event you are putting on next year, please contact Singing Guitars Enquiry to arrange an informal get-together to discuss things further.
