The History Group meets on the third Tuesday afternoon in Midsomer Norton Library.

We have had lots of interesting discussion topics over the last few months. All of us have learnt new historical facts in areas that have been suggested by members, which we can then go on to research individually.

Each member chooses a topic that interests them and leads the discussion for that session. The rest of the group researches the subject too, bringing along anything unusual, surprising, or particularly engaging that they’ve discovered — which always sparks lively conversation. We’ve explored everything from medieval to modern history, including local topics.

Recent subjects include:
The Cathars — led by Daffyd
The Bayeux Tapestry — led by Carolyn
The London Foundling Hospital — led by Jan C
Upcoming topics include The History of Purnell’s (Mark) and The Irish Potato Famine (Colin).

We’re a friendly group who enjoy good discussion, plenty of laughter, and the essential cup of tea with biscuits.

The group is currently full, with a waiting list for anyone who would like to join. For more information please contact History Group Leader.
