2026 AGM
Our 2026 AGM was held at The Somer Centre on 30th March 2026. 92 of our members attended, which was a brilliant turnout. Rosemary Lovell was returned as our Chair for one further year (until 2027). We thanked Dafydd Evans and Carol Channon, who both stepped down, for their involvement with the Committee. Other committee members were re-elected, so we are currently a Committee of 10 at present (2026-27). See About Us page for current listing of all Committee Members.
Or next AGM was set for 22nd March 2027.
VACANCIES April/May 2026: We are urgently looking for volunteers to help and support the Committee, in particular a Vice-Chair to assist the Chair and Secretary. This would be a committee role, and would suit someone with some experience in a similar role in a charity or other small organisation/business. We are hoping some of our newer members might be interested - please contact Rosemary (Chair) or Grahame (Treasurer).
Other volunteer roles: we are also looking for some non-committee roles to support us:
Technical support (AV in particular). If interested, please contact Rosemary (Chair) or Grahame (Treasurer).
Remembering one of the u3a founding members
In August 2025, the sad news of the death of Eric Midwinter, one of the visionary co-founders of the u3a movement in the UK, was shared with u3a members across the nation.
Eric, alongside Peter Laslett and Michael Young, established u3a in 1982 with the belief that later life should be a time of continued learning, connection, and contribution. Eric's commitment to challenging negative stereotypes of ageing, and to creating spaces for older adults to share skills, knowledge, and friendship, has shaped the lives of hundreds of thousands of u3a members over four decades.
