We visit a range of historic buildings, monuments and other sites of historic interest and antiquity.
October and November (2025) trips unfortunately had to be called off because of rain.

On 5th September (2025), Rocks & Ruins visited the impressive Stanton Drew stone Circles. The weather was ideal, and I think all 12 of us had a very interesting afternoon, and a really satisfying experience. Here's my photo of the group beside one of massive Great Circle stones.

In August we revisited Burrington Combe and admired the wonderful rock exposures.
In July, we had a super trip to Ebbor Gorge near Priddy, climbing up the steep narrow 'defile' that exposes some interesting geology. And once at the top there was the superb view to admire.
In June we had a repeat trip to the famous Stoney Littleton Long Barrow. (This time I provided some bicycle helmets and a couple of torches, to guard against hitting heads on the very low ceiling of the barrow!). And all went well...
May was a walk along the Great Elm / Vallis Vale path, with a close look at the famous De La Beche geological unconformity - as described and illustrated in the very first Geological Survey memoir of 1845.
In April (2025) we climbed up to Maesbury Castle, an ancient (Iron Age?) hill fort near the Rocky Mountain Nursery. It's a well-preserved site with amazingly good views around the local countryside.
We meet, or go somewhere interesting, every first Friday afternoon of the month. .
